The heart chakra or Anahata, in its original Sanskrit name, is located in the center of the chest. Anahata moves love through your body and life. It is the center of your deep bonds with other beings, your feelings of self-love, kindness and respect.

When this chakra is unbalanced, you may feel disconnected from your life and love. Deep insecurity, incapable of real intimacy, jealousy and a sense of social isolation.

By focusing on this chakra ,you can begin to heal the heart. You will start feeling the love towards yourself  and others.You also start feeling a deep sense of calm that will help you to handle the stress of everyday life.

To open and balance your heart chakra, focus to yoga poses that stretch, strengthen, and expand your shoulders and chest. In yoga we practice heart openers as a getaway to our vulnerabilities.

The best heart chakra yoga poses are those that open the chest area as well as poses that draw energy into the heart.

One of the most challenging things in life is to be vulnerable. As we grow older we become more closed and constricted. We have been hurt many times and we feel the need to protect ourselves. Physically, we rotate our shoulders forward, we push out our chin and round our upper body to protect the heart.

The following poses open and balance the heart chakra.



Camel pose

Camel pose. Open your heart and shoulders with camel pose. This pose increases flexibility in the spine and opens the chest and shoulders. Camel Pose clears blockages created by past incidents and strengthens the spine. Camel pose is a strong asana that opens up your chest area, exposing you, making you vulnerable and more open to giving and receiving love.



Upward facing dog 

Upward facing dog strengthens the spine, upward-facing dog also stretches the lungs and chest to open the fourth chakra. Great for Opening the Heart Chakra & Self-love





Bridge Pose is a gentler variation of Wheel Pose and it begins to create flexibility and strength in your spine. This pose also lifts and opens your heart towards the sky. Bridge pose helps to open the chest and increase circulation, relaxing the mind and calming the nervous system.




Wheel pose

Wheel Pose is a strong heart opening backbend. Wheel pose increases elasticity and flexibility of the spine. This pose loosens tight hips which means increased hip flexibility. Wheel pose is said to ignite all seven of the chakras, keeping all the processes of the body in harmony with each other.



The Heart chakra is such an important chakra, the center of all seven chakras. When it is open, you will feel surrounded by love, compassion, and joy and connected to the world around you. This is why it is important for everyone to heal and grow the heart chakra. Letting go of what we don’t need to carry allows us to make room for new and better life opportunities, and learning to embrace the love towards yourself and others.
